CALLS TO ACTION

Protect the Public Post Office!

For over 150 years, Canada Post has kept Canadians connected. Its role in our communities remains as important as ever. Today, its future is at risk.

Canada Post is talking about cuts to services, closing post offices, ending door-to-door delivery, outsourcing jobs to private franchises, and even eyeing privatization.

Postal workers went on strike last year to defend their rights but also to save a cherished public service. Though the strike was halted by the previous government, no new collective agreements have been reached.

Tell your member of parliament to stand up and protect our public postal service, and its jobs, before it’s too late.

Support OCEU/CUPE 1750

Premier Ford won’t act unless his MPPs feel the heat. Take 2 minutes to demand your MPP end the WSIB strike.

The WSIB strike won’t end until Premier Ford’s government stops interfering in negotiations. MPPs have the power to pressure Ford—but they’ll only act if they hear from YOU.

OCEU CUPE 1750 workers are the backbone of Ontario’s workplace safety net. They guide injured workers through trauma, ensure families get support, and help people return to work. But with workloads doubling, training slashed in half, and $14.5M sent to Texas, they’re stretched to the breaking point.

Citizen Mercenaries and the Gaza Genocide

By Richard Westra

It is, of course, nice to see Canada, the UK and France finally developing a conscience over what multiple international institutions and prominent scholarly experts have concluded. That is, the Zionist colonial regime of Israel is committing the crime of genocide against Palestinians in Gaza. After all, the evidence of murderous carnage perpetrated upon Gaza and its peoples is robust. Scientists for Global Responsibility show how weapons supplied by the above states, along with Germany and the United States (US), have not only resulted in explosive tonnage bombarding Gaza exceeding that of multiple Hiroshima bombings and destructive World War II campaigns against Hamburg, Cologne, and Dresden, but have produced a casualty count far above that estimated by besieged local authorities cited in mainstream presses.

Christopher Hill: Life and Legacy of a Radical Historian

By Ryan Breeden

Christopher Hill looms large in the landscape of British Marxist historiography, perhaps the indispensable historian of the English Revolution for generations on the Left. His name evokes dusty paperbacks passed around student circles, dense arguments about base and superstructure, and crucially, the recovery of England’s own revolutionary tradition – a past “turned upside down” by the common people. Michael Braddick’s new biography, Christopher Hill: The Life of a Radical Historian, offers a timely opportunity to reassess this complex figure, a man whose life spanned the tumultuous twentieth century and whose work sought to make sense of history, not as a pageant of kings and queens but rather as a terrain of class conflict and ideological struggle.

Stop European Funding for Israeli Institutions

Israel’s genocidal war on Gaza, which has raged for over 19 months, has turned Gaza into hell on earth. Since Israel imposed a total blockade on March 2, 2025, and unilaterally resumed its military offensive in violation of the ceasefire agreement, over 2 million people have been facing the worst levels of hunger, starvation and disability imaginable, amidst relentless bombings. The level of death, destruction and human suffering is apocalyptic. The trickle of aid Israel allowed to enter on May 23 is just a camouflage to avert further international pressure. Ethnic cleansing looms behind the intensified attacks.

Rethinking Free Speech

Peter Ives is professor of political science at the University of Winnipeg. He is the author of Rethinking Free Speech (Fernwood, 2024). We need to rethink free speech to better address diverse goals from knowledge production to democratic participation and individual expression. Clashes over free speech rights and wrongs haunt public debates about the state of democracy, freedom and the future. While freedom of speech is recognized as foundational to democratic society, its meaning is persistently misunderstood and distorted.
