CALLS TO ACTION

Tell the CLC to declare Israeli goods and services Hot Cargo!

Since October 2023, Israel has waged a genocide against Palestinians, committing unspeakable war crimes — with Canada’s support. The Israeli army is using weapons produced by Canadian companies to murder Palestinians and to bomb hospitals, schools, and refugee camps in Gaza.

Beyond weapons and bombs, Israel’s genocide and ongoing apartheid system is sustained by various forms of collaboration and trade with Canada; from academic partnerships and research, to the sale of alcohol produced in illegal settlements, to delivering mail and the shipping of goods, to the issuing of government permits and export licenses.

Palestinian trade unions have been clear: to stop the genocide, trade unions in the West must refuse all forms of collaboration with Israel.
Tell the Canadian Labour Congress to:

– Declare all Israeli goods and services to be Hot Cargo and call on the Canadian labour movement to refuse work related to Israel.

– Pressure the Canadian government to enact a two way arms embargo.

Don’t Let Ford Gut the Endangered Species Act

The introduction of Bill 5 is an unprecedented assault on nature, environmental protection, Indigenous rights and democracy in Ontario, and a clear signal that the provincial government, much like Trump, prioritizes corporate profits over the well-being of people and nature.

If passed, Bill 5 risks fast-tracking major development projects by creating lawless zones where hand-picked corporations could be exempt from provincial law, in direct affront to Indigenous rights.

Crises, Contradictions, and Collective Life

When: June 2-4
Where: OISE

This year’s conference is situated in and amid the contradictions of collective life, of intellectual life and political action in the context of scorched earth, genocidal politics. At the same time, we cannot decontextualize this conference from the broader politics of today; the urgency of the moment and its challenge to intellectual life was highlighted by universities’ attempts to repress protests against Israel’s genocidal war in Palestine. What does it mean to have a conference negotiating the future of socialist thought and action in a setting undergirded by the funding of genocide and repression of critique? As such, the conference calls for contributions that ask how stretching our analyses – emphasizing new strategies, new tactics, and new frameworks – can answer this call.

The international community must act decisively, immediately, and with full moral and legal responsibility. We are witnessing, in real time, the deliberate starvation of a civilian population as a method of warfare. Over two million Palestinians in Gaza are living in famine.

Imperialist Blackmail Disguised As Diplomacy

The South African Federation of Trade Unions (SAFTU) condemns in the strongest terms the disgraceful deception of the South African public by President Cyril Ramaphosa and his delegation during their recent meeting with Donald Trump in Washington. What was presented as a diplomatic engagement has now been unmasked as a covert operation to surrender South Africa’s already-weak transformation policies to the global billionaire elite.
