CALLS TO ACTION

Support Striking Workers

Primary care workers at North York Family Health Team (NYFHT) are on strike, fighting for their first-ever collective agreement so that they can continue providing the care our community needs. They provide comprehensive care for 95,000+ patients at all stages of life, from mental and physical health to chronic disease management.

The employer received additional government funding earlier this year meant for retention and recruitment but is using it to make up for their own financial mismanagement.

Tell the NYFHT Board of Directors to redirect those funds to fair wages and settle a fair collective agreement!

Don’t End Rent Control!

Premier Doug Ford announced a new set of proposed changes to the Landlord and Tenant Board (LTB) that would strip away key tenant protections, fast-track evictions, and open the door to ending rent control as we know it in Ontario. These proposals are nothing short of a disaster for tenants. They would make it easier for landlords to kick people out, harder for tenants to fight back, and make housing even MORE expensive.

Ontario is already in a housing crisis — rents are skyrocketing, wages and benefits are stagnant, and over 80,000 people were homeless in 2024, a 25% increase since 2022, according to AMO. Instead of protecting renters, Ford’s government is proposing to speed up evictions and weaken the few rights tenants have left.

News Media and the Far Right

When: November 6th, 5pm
Where: George Vari Engineering & Computing, 245 Church St

The influence of news coverage on the rise of far-right ideologies is undeniable. Capitalism’s Safety Net investigates how the liberal media—often seen as a force for democracy—can, in fact, reinforce authoritarian, ultra-nationalist, xenophobic, racist, and reactionary politics. By tracing the connections between dominant ideology, capitalist crises, and the political economy of the news industry, this book exposes how mass media systems often serve to legitimize far-right movements while undermining radical left-wing alternatives. Moving beyond media critique, it offers a deeper analysis of how the capitalist mode of production shapes the very frameworks through which information, power, and ideology circulate.

Geopolitics Isn’t Killing Global Supply Chains – It’s Powering Them

By Benjamin Selwyn

Global supply chains (GSCs) – which account for around 70 percent of international trade – are often referred to as the backbone of the world economy. As tensions rise between major powers – especially the United States and China – many commentators fear for the future of GSCs, and hence, the world economy. Such projections overlook how geopolitical rivalries have stimulated the development of advanced technologies, which, in turn, enabled the rise and ongoing transformation of global supply chains.

The Illusion of a Ceasefire: Gaza Still Under Continuous Genocide

By BADIL

Despite the announcement of a deal between the Palestinian resistance movement and the Israeli regime, the latter continues to violate the ceasefire provisions. The world treats the ceasefire as if the genocide has ended, but the reality on the ground tells a different story: Gaza is in ruins; and starvation, displacement, and death continue as deliberate tools of genocide. This so-called ceasefire exists only in rhetoric; genocide continues while diplomatic actors debate who allegedly broke the deal.
