Defend Canadians’ Rights to Criticize Zionism
The Government of Canada has recently announced new commitments to combat antisemitism that include addressing anti-Zionism as a contemporary manifestation of antisemitism.
While antisemitism must be firmly opposed, Canadians must also remain free to criticize political ideologies—including Zionism—and the policies and actions of foreign governments, including Israel.

As imperialist powers attempt to dictate the fate of Palestine, we must confront and oppose their efforts to liquidate our struggle. We must hold the governments of the United States, Canada, Europe, and the Arab states fully accountable for continuing to enable and fund the genocide.
The genocide must end. The escalated attacks on the people of Palestine, Lebanon and Iran must end.

Fighting to Win
When: Nov 12 to Dec 2
Unions and social movements today are operating under incredibly dire circumstances. There is great economic uncertainty and we confront the worsening impact of climate change as well as a global situation marked by the growing threat of conflict and war. When workers strike or communities under attack take to the streets, it seems that victories are much harder to win and past gains more difficult to defend.
This course will grapple with these questions by looking at the forms of exploitation and oppression that exist in society and the means by which the power structure acts to limit and contain our struggles. The course will move towards a discussion of how our movements can overcome the factors that hold them back and fight to win!

Building the Confront Carney’s CEO Summit Protest

By Bianca Mugyenyi
The September 14 demonstration against Mark Carney’s CEO summit was a big boost for the Left. Some 2,000 people participated in the Confront Carney’s CEO Summit protest in Toronto, which included a “Carnival Against Capitalism” targeting the largest gathering of capitalists in Canadian history. The biggest explicitly anti-capitalist protest in Canada in many years received widespread mainstream media coverage. CBC’s The National went live to the march at the top of its broadcast that night, while international outlets including Reuters, Al Jazeera and the
New York Times reported on the protest.

‘And They Call it Democracy’

By Bryan Palmer
In 1894 Sam Gompers, a conservative craft unionist and head of the American Federation of Labor, stated bluntly, “There never yet existed coincident with one another autocracy in the shop and democracy in political life.” Gompers is not someone I usually quote with favor. In this instance, however, he was undoubtedly right. For the working-class, ostensible democracy in the political arena has always been compromised by the transparent lack of democracy in productive everyday life, where the interests of capital prevail. Those interests are sustained, legitimized, and periodically revived and deepened by the capitalist state that proclaims itself operating in the interests of all citizens at the same time as it relentlessly serves the needs and wants of the powerful.
