Call for Artists for Food Sovereignty
In April 2025, during the 3rd Global Nyeleni Forum -- the most important event of the global movement for food sovereignty, systemic transformation, and justice for all -- the Nyeleni Virtual Gallery will be launched as a space for committed artists engaged in popular struggles. So far, the Nyeleni process has united small-scale food producers, including farmers, fishers, and pastoralists, alongside Indigenous Peoples, feminist groups, racialized communities, academics, and human rights defenders from around the world. Now is the time to strengthen our alliances and join forces with others who resist the oppression of the system.
We invite artists from all backgrounds to submit their works in various formats by January 31, 2025, for the "
Call: Artists for Food Sovereignty - Nyeleni Edition

Call for Online Survey Participants
PhD candidate Sirena Liladrie is looking for participants to complete an online survey investigating retirement barriers faced by racialized immigrant seniors experiencing low-income in Ontario.
The study is specifically interested in surveying adult children, to better understand the realities their racialized low-income parents are experiencing with retirement, and how that may in turn affect them. Inadequate pensions and reliance on adult children to fill the gaps, is a social justice issue in Ontario that needs to be addressed.
If you meet the following 3 criteria below, please click the link to complete the anonymous survey and for your chance to be entered in a draw to win 1 of 4 Amazon gift cards:
1. Do you have a parent that is retired or around retirement age (60+) and lives mostly in Ontario?
2. Is this parent a racialized immigrant (non-white and came to Canada from another country)?
3. Is this parent experiencing low-income (For example, earns around $30,000 or less a year AND/OR receives the Guaranteed Income Supplement - GIS)?

The Talking Back Feminist Media Conference
Shameless
is an independent Canadian voice for smart, strong, sassy young women and trans youth, covering issues that matter to young women and trans youth since 2004! It's a fresh alternative to typical teen magazines, packed with articles about arts, culture and current events, reflecting the neglected diversity of our readers' interests and experiences. Grounded in principles of social justice and anti-oppression, Shameless aims to do more than just publish a magazine: we aim to inspire, inform, and advocate for young women and trans youth.
In celebration of our 15th year of independent feminist publishing for teens,
Shameless
will host the first ever Talking Back Feminist Media Conference on November 16th and 17th, 2019, at the Toronto Media Arts Centre. This conference is funded by the Toronto Arts Council.
SESSION PROPOSAL DEADLINE: FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 27th, 2019.

We are excited to review applications for $500-$4000 that meet the following criteria:
* Work that is led by the communities the group are organizing; specifically, people most directly affected by oppression
* Work of organizations led by Black and/or Indigenous organizers, to whom we are committed to giving a minimum 50% of funding
* Work that confronts the root causes of oppression, rather than just finding temporary solutions
* Work that actively confronts power imbalances and seeks to build community power
* Work that increases organizational infrastructure, allowing groups to do their work on a long-term basis
* Work that cannot get adequate funding from other sources
* Work taking place within Ontario, though, given our ongoing commitment to decolonize our work, relying on colonial borders requires us to be more flexible.
