Dear Friends and Fellow Activists,

News of the horrors in Gaza seems to worsen by the day. I, like so many others, have found it increasingly difficult to absorb the horror. It is impossible to unsee what one has seen. It is devastating. If only to temper my anguish and frustration, my rage and sense of powerlessness, I composed an ode to Israel's Genocide. Set to Mozart's "Lacrimosa," the ode takes the form of a video.

Mar 5, 2024 - Lenin on the Centenary of His Death

The Left has tossed Lenin's corpse to the victors of history - both the Stalinists and their liberal opponents. One group mummified him into an idol for the worship of their own power, while the other demonized him as an enemy of democracy and human rights. The New Left viewed itself primarily as an anti-Leninist Left, and celebrated its break with his legacy. With the demise of the Soviet Union in 1991, seemingly consigning it to the dustbin of history, it seemed that the final word had been spoken on that state's founder. The leaders of the very party he founded and shaped buried his work.

Mar 4, 2024 - Arms Embargo on Israel Now! Canadians Ramp Up Pressure on Trudeau and Joly

As the UN is calling for an immediate arms embargo and reminding Canadian officials involved in arms exports that they may be "individually criminally liable for aiding and abetting any war crimes," people across the country are taking action to stop Canadian-made arms from being used by Israel to commit genocide in Gaza. Community members began blocking access to major weapons company facilities in Kitchener-Waterloo and Victoria at dawn this morning, following blockades in Toronto, Peterborough, Calgary, Quebec City and Vancouver earlier this week.

Mar 3, 2024 - Tell Ministers Joly, Hussen, and Miller to Stop Genocide or Resign!

Canada has ignored repeated warnings from UN experts and the World Court on the risk of Israel committing genocide in Gaza, and Canada's response to developments have even worsened the crisis. In particular, Ministers Joly, Hussen, and Miller have each mismanaged their ministerial portfolio:

- Foreign Affairs Minister Melanie Joly resisted calls for a ceasefire, refused to condemn Israel's violence against Palestinians and ignored the World Courts finding of a "plausible" genocide in Gaza.

- Minister of International Development Ahmed Hussen cut funding to the UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) on the very day that the World Court called for assurances of aid to Palestinians.

The subjugation and forced enslavement of Black bodies seized from the continent of Africa had been fundamental to the expansion and growth of the Atlantic domain since the early sixteenth century. In fact, African enslavement had been a mainstay throughout the Spanish Atlantic world for more than a generation prior to English colonization in the Americas. Seeing the Spanish not only as rivals for land, wealth, and resources, the English (not having yet invented their own legalized system of slavery) could also view them as a model concurrent with their French equivalents.
