CALLS TO ACTION
Support Xinka Self-Determination in Guatemala
Whereas:
– Since 2011, Xinka Indigenous communities in Guatemala have peacefully opposed the Escobal mine—owned by Vancouver-based Pan American Silver since 2019—due to concerns about water contamination and depletion in a largely agricultural region, as well as serious social, cultural, and spiritual impacts, and the denial of their right to self determination;
– As a result of their resistance, Xinka people have faced harassment, threats, attacks, defamation, persecution, police repression, a military state of siege, and the denial of their cultural existence;
– In 2017, Guatemala’s Supreme Court ordered the suspension of the Escobal project for lack of prior consultation and discrimination, a decision upheld in 2018 by the Constitutional Court, which established the terms of the consultation process;
We, the undersigned, citizens and residents of Canada, call upon the Government of Canada to:
1. Publicly reaffirm the Xinka people’s right to free, prior, and informed consent and self determination, and call upon Pan American Silver and Guatemalan authorities to respect the results of the consultation process; and
2. Direct Canadian consular officials to protect Xinka defenders by fully implementing Voices at Risk: Canada’s Guidelines on Supporting Human Rights Defenders to ensure their safety and security.

LNG: Not In Our National Interest
When: Friday April 17th, 9:30am
Where: Minister of the Environment’s Office, 1028 Queen St. E
LNG stands for liquefied natural gas. It’s a fossil fuel that’s supercooled into liquid form so it can be shipped around the world. While companies promote LNG as an economic opportunity, the reality is that these projects are extremely expensive and depend on billions of dollars in public funding to move forward. That means taxpayer money — your money — could be used to prop up risky fossil fuel megaprojects that may never deliver the promised benefits.
At the same time, expanding LNG locks Canada into decades more of fossil fuel use, delaying the transition to cleaner energy when we need it most. Instead of doubling down on the past, we have an opportunity to invest in renewable energy solutions — including Indigenous-led projects — that can create good jobs, lower energy costs, and build a more stable and sustainable economy.

Palestinian Prisoners’ Day
When: Sunday, April 19th, 2pm-9pm
Where: Sent to registrants
Today, over 9000 Palestinians political prisoners are held in Israeli prisons, where they face starvation, torture, and the systematic denial of their basic rights. At the same time, the zionist state is advancing legislation that would allow for the mass execution of prisoners, further escalating and deepening already brutal and inhumane conditions. Palestinian Prisoners historically have always been a compass in our struggle and their freedom is a fundamental tether to our liberation.
In a moment like this, our responsibility is clear: our commitment must only grow stronger. It is more urgent than ever that we organize and act to confront this reality.

Opposing Western Intervention and the Iranian Regime

Samira Mohyeddin interviewed by Baris Karaagac
As the United States and Israel escalate their military campaign against Iran, the war is being justified through a familiar vocabulary: security, deterrence, and the elimination of existential threats. Yet beyond official rhetoric, the conflict is also unfolding as a battle over narratives – one shaped by media framing, digital propaganda, and deeply divided political communities.

Western Hemisphere: A History of the United States Written by War
