CALLS TO ACTION

No Jets!

Right now, there’s a proposal to expand the Toronto Island Airport to allow commercial jets — jets that would bring noise, pollution and traffic gridlock, and wipe out thousands of new homes our city desperately needs.

The federal government can easily stop this: the 1983 Tripartite Agreement already prohibits jets. They just have to say no. Yet most MPs are staying silent.

Toronto has invested billions — and decades — transforming our waterfront into a vibrant place to swim, boat, live and play. Now all of that is at risk.

Tell your MP to say no to jets on our waterfront. Sign now.

Building an Ocean of Peace

When: Friday July 3rd, 9pm

For decades, Pacific communities have carried the consequences of militarization, nuclear testing, and great-power competition. Tune in this July to learn about efforts to strengthen peace, oppose further military expansion, and support a sustainable, nuclear-free Pacific. For many communities across the Pacific, 2026 Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) military exercises scheduled for 24 June – 31 July represent a continued expansion of militarization in the region. These large-scale war exercises heighten regional tensions, increase the risk of conflict, and divert resources away from addressing the urgent social, economic, and environmental challenges facing the region.

Progressive Vision for AI & Digital Sovereignty

When: July 9th, 6pm
Where: George Vari Engineering and Computing Centre, 245 Church St

The global economy is overly dependent on U.S. tech giants for digital infrastructure, data, and artificial intelligence. U.S. laws and corporate dominance threaten external control over digital systems, putting sovereignty, privacy, and democracy at risk.

Democracies must be free from foreign influence and of profit at the expense of livelihoods. Meanwhile, AI as a tool for the profit of Big Tech companies is used to threaten jobs, undermine public education, healthcare, and public services, and erodes public trust. How do we make digital sovereignty and public, democratically controlled AI for the public good into real nation-building initiatives?

Housing Justice Gathering During FIFA Match is Blocked by Police

Housing advocates and frontline workers gathered in Toronto’s Downtown East on June 13 to call for social housing at a long-vacant property on Sherbourne Street, but their planned community gathering was blocked when police prevented access to the site. The action began with a community meal and rally at Allan Gardens before participants marched to 214–230 Sherbourne Street, a property that has remained vacant for nearly two decades despite ongoing calls for affordable housing development.
